The difference between Nikon D3 and D3X

Nikon released info few days ago on their latest full-frame sensor camera, the Nikon D3X, which is an enhanced version of the Nikon D3, a new full frame DSLR with a whopping 24.5 megapixels. It is, more or less, a Nikon D3 with a bigger sensor.

The sensor will give images of up to 6048 x 4032 pixels, and runs from ISO 100 to a rather conservative ISO 1600, compared to the ISO 6400 available on the smaller 12MP D3. Amazingly, Nikon says that the D3X can still shift up to five frames per second in full frame FX format, and up to seven fps if you shrink your images down to DX format.

The Nikon D3X is aimed at wedding professionals, studio photographers, and anyone in need of a high-resolution, high-ISO, dual card slot digital SLR. The biggest upgrade on the Nikon D3X is the boost in MP offering about double the resolution. Whereas the Nikon D3 offers speed and high performance perfect for journalists and sports/action photographers, the Nikon D3X offers much higher resolution, 14-bit files at 138MB, for professional photographers.

The price tag is a little steep at $7999 USD, but is comparable to the Canon 1Ds Mark III when it was first released. Does the Nikon D3X camera worth $7999 usd ?
